Q: looking for hinge that will be push in or push out non latching door for a disapearing large door of cabinet face going into a pantry. want to try to hide hinge so it is not seen from kitchen entry.. dont care if you see them in the pantry Richard Howard: 14:52 what are you hanging ? Visitor: 14:54 8 x 30 door .. trying to make cabinet face look like typical cabinet face .. but it is actually a doorway into the pantry Richard Howard: 14:54 8 x 30 Visitor: 14:54 want to be able to push it to swing in and out .. non latching sorry 8 ' tall 30" wide Richard Howard: 14:55 how thick ? Visitor: 14:56 oh ... nit sure .. typical cabinet from .. but beefed up a bit .. no thicker than 2.5" ?? I imaging my cabinet maker will mount the cabinet face on a hollow core door Richard Howard: 14:56 and you want this to double act? Visitor: 14:57 if double act means swing in and out .. then yes.. Richard Howard: 14:57 I see weight ? Visitor: 14:58 oh not sure .. .wait .. can I attach or email you the scan of the cabinet drawings ?? Richard Howard: 14:58 yes - does it indicate the weight [email protected] Also is it to be self closing? Visitor: 14:59 no weight not listed Richard Howard: 14:59 need to know that Visitor: 14:59 yes .. self closing Richard Howard: 15:00 email the drawing will you are working on the weight Visitor: 15:04 ok .. sending drawings .. i have asked the cabinet guy about the weight Visitor: 15:07 just sent to your attention item is on the far left of the drawing .. it looks like a double door cabinet front .. but really is a double action piviting door going into the pantry .. Visitor: 15:09 they have drawn it as though it pivots on both sides .. but i think it needs to pivot only on right side moving with a push in or out .. like a door at a restaurant kitchen Richard Howard: 15:09 got it - weight? Visitor: 15:10 dont know ... maybe close to 50lbs Richard Howard: 15:10 okay there is no elegant way to do this this item is a possibility https://absupply.net/bommer-7801-600-horizontal-spring-pivot-with-floor-plate-light-duty-hold-open-steel-trim-primed-for-painting-30997.aspx but your issue will be potential for warp of the door Visitor: 15:11 why ?? weight ?? Richard Howard: 15:11 what hardware is the cabinet maker suggesting? because doors tend to warp the doors in your home now have a hinge in th emiddle or perhaps two I will be back in less than 5 min Visitor: 15:13 i looked at Bommer 3029-5-633 but was not sure .. my cabinet maker is hungarian and we dont seem to be communicating well ... if I can show him a specification he can determine if it will work Richard Howard: 15:14 I will deterine if it will work this hinge is not an option you dstated 2-1/2" thick Visitor: 15:15 any way the hinges can be "hidden" from the face ?? we want it to be a "disquise" entry ... to look like a cabinet face .. but be a door Richard Howard: 15:16 yes you can do a floor closer will be concealed, double acting and self closing will handle the thickness and weight but will not handle any warp ionthe cabinet door Richard Howard: 15:17 the door your cabinet maker is planning to make will will likely 4 - hinges the 2'nd and 3'rd hinge will prevent the warp. a double acting item will not one in ten doors only will warp. what is plan B if yours does Visitor: 15:18 tell the cabinet maker to fix it .... new construction big home ... Richard Howard: 15:18 and when he tells you your hardware is causing the warp? Visitor: 15:19 haha ... good question ... Richard Howard: 15:19 25 years I have been in this business the family - 80 I am not engaging is indle time wasting conversation regarding this experience trumps all as you likely can attest to Visitor: 15:20 i own an HVAC company my dad started in 1946 .. so this is my 70th year ... understand .. I will send my cabinet maker your suggestion is there a heavy duty version .. i see this 7801-600 is light duty Richard Howard: 15:21 we are tilling the same soil - LOL the 7800 series are no concealed Visitor: 15:21 got ... thanks Richard ... i will send them your contact info ... cabinet maker is [removed] in [removed] GA Richard Howard: 15:22 let the cabinet maker suggest a hinge run it past me first sorry for the typing errors Visitor: 15:22 thanks ... will do !! if you need HVAC in Atlanta area ... let me know Richard Howard: 15:22 sure will The transcript will be sent to "[removed]".
A: Per our prior live chat transcript I understand that your door is approximately 30 inch by 84 inch in size . You have also indicated the door to be about two and a half inches thick and that you want it to be double acting and that you require the hardware to be concealed.
There is an item that will operate and meet all of the criteria you are requesting and that piece of hardware is called a floor or overhead door closer also known as a concealed door closer.
A concealed door closer would be mounted into the floor or into the header, will double act, will handle the door thickness of two and a half inch, and will be concealed with the exception that you would see the cover plate that would cover the body of the door closer of the cylinder itself.
The closer like this is inherently considered center-hung.
The term center-hung means that the vertical axis of pivoting is positioned within the thickness of the door and not like a traditional hand for the vertical axis a pivoting is a measurable distance off the face of the door.
Inherent in the design of a center-hung piece of Hardware is the requirement that it be radiused on the style . If the edge of the door we're not radiused it would not double act properly without having a significant margin of clearance between the edge of the door and the jamb.
The first consideration that you have to put into moving forward with your Cabinetry is will your design permit a radius pivot Edge on your door? Think of the top roll of tile in the bathroom that top row of tile is called bulldozed now imagine if you bulldozed both sides of the door . We then would call that radius.
If your design can tolerate a radius on the edge of the door than the next and potentially final consideration that we must think about is the potential for warp . If the door where to warp whatsoever, the exposure to risk that you have is that the hardware has no way to mitigate the warp of a door. Also it would be the common and expected response from the door manufacturer that the wharf is not their responsibility because it would be determined, and is industry standard to determine, that a door is improperly hung when it is hung and I sent her home fashion. Think of how a door that is hung on standard hinges or offset pivots for that matter, have a hinge or an intermediate pivot one or possibly more, installed in the middle of the door. This allows you to mitigate the potential for warp . Center-hung Hardware has no devices installed in the middle of the door.
The above all is a summary of our prior conversation. We concluded that you would ask your cabinet maker for a hardware recommendation and we agreed that you would allow me to review it before a purchase was made.
Please be sure to send it my way so that I can review it and advise you directly regarding its compatibility with your ultimate design.

Q: We are installing a Bommer pivot door model 7801. The hardware includes a black pin about 1/8" diameter and about three inches long. This is not mentioned in the instructions so we don't know what to do with it.
